Missionary Meals in Bags

Meals-in-a-Jar
If you have been around the Internet at all this Christmas season you may have seen the #LIGHTtheWORLD campaign being promoted by our church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints). We blogged about how we are participating specifically at this blog post. This campaign hit close to home for me because my little sister is currently serving a mission for our church for 18 months and I am glad she is getting the chance to serve others while we are doing our own acts of service back home. The idea is to do something each day in December to serve in the same ways that Christ served when he was on the earth. It's really been amazing to see what everyone has been doing to Light the…

Lime Shamrock Sugar Cookies

Desserts, Dinners, Meals-in-a-Jar, Recipes
My kids always like to have a fun way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. I was out of town last weekend and didn't have time to get anything super fun organized. So I did what all good moms do and resorted to searching Pinterest for ideas. I found this cute idea for shamrock sugar cookies that includes a little lesson idea to teach kids about how the Godhead is individual people but one in purpose. We do a little spiritual family lesson and/or activity every Monday night so this was perfect for us! Hearty Chili Meal-in-a-Jar

Meals-in-a-Jar, Recipes
We've been LOVING the convenience of meals-in-a-jar lately. Not only are they awesome for healthier "fast food", but they are also a great alternative to just-add-water meals that are convenient in emergency situations. We are always looking for great jar recipes but today we wanted to share with you how you can take one of your own favorite recipes and change it into a meal-in-a-jar. Hearty Chili - Regular Version We originally posted this recipe over on our Food Storage Made Easy blog as a great way to use pinto beans. But as you can see it's not very quick or simple. Ingredients: 1 lb. lean hamburger (use canned) 2 tsp. salt 2 c. dried pinto beans ¼ tsp. paprika 8 oz. can tomato sauce 1 ½ tsp. ground cumin…

How I Preserve Food: Meals in a Jar

Meals-in-a-Jar, Recipes
There are so many ways (and reasons) to preserve food (scroll to the bottom of this post to see a blogger round-up of tons of great food preservation posts). While most people think about canning or dehydrating when they think about food preservation, we wanted to touch on something a little different today. We are firm believers in having a fully-stocked "home store" not just for every day convenience, but also in case of a long term emergency situation. We blog about this a lot over at Food Storage Made Easy. You can dehydrate or purchase freeze-dried/dehydrated single ingredients and store them on the shelf with the intention of making meals out of them. But how often do you actually put together a meal and try it out? Are you…
