Freeze-Dried Sausage Crumbles

November 17, 2014 by Julie W Leave a Comment

Out of all of Thrive’s products there are only a couple I haven’t tried. Up until last Saturday, somehow I had never tried the Freeze-Dried Sausage Crumbles. I kept meaning to put them on my Q but kept forgetting. Well let me tell you, I’m going to remember this next month to get some because they are awesome.

Sausage is actually something we don’t eat a lot of in our home. So to have this on hand to use in small quantities is awesome! I don’t have to worry about only using partial packages or wasting meat that goes bad.

sas So how was I introduced to the Freeze-Dried Sausage Crumbles? Last Saturday we were at an event where Chef Todd from Thrive served us breakfast. We had some of his famous “Santa Fe Sausage Omelets”. Man they were good. In case you already have the Freeze-Dried Sausage Crumbles in your home store, give these a try. If not – get some!

Santa Fe Sausage Omelet

Chef Todd Leonard

Ingredients:
1/2 cup Thrive Sausage Crumbles (FD)
1/4 cup Thrive Green Chili Peppers (FD)
2 tbsp. Thrive Chopped Onions (FD)
1/2 cup Thrive Tomato Dices (FD)
1/2 cup water
1 tbsp. Thrive Instant Milk Powder
2/3 cup Thrive Scrambled Egg Mix
1 tsp. Thrive Chef’s Choice Seasoning Blend
1 tbsp. Thrive Cilantro (FD)
1 cup water
1 cup pepper jack cheese, shredded

Directions:
1. Reconstitute sausage and vegetables with the 1/2 cup water. Mix milk powder, eggs, seasonings, and the 1 cup water together until well blended.

2. For each omelet, saute 1/4 of the vegetable mixture in 1 tablespoon butter or oil. Add 1/4 cup of egg mixture and cook to set, folding in layers with a rubber spatula as they develop.

3. Once liquid is mostly set, flip omelet over and add in 1/4 cup cheese. Allow to melt but remove omelet from heat before it browns. Fold omelet in half to serve.
