My husband and I have been doing the “Insanity” workout program lately and it is definitely INSANE. It’s been fun to do something together to try to get healthier and a little more physically fit. We decided to follow their recommended nutrition plan and I’ve been able to use a lot of Thrive Life Foods to make that easier. I don’t have to go to the store every two days to keep up with the fresh fruit and veggies which is awesome. Another perk to using Thrive is that my husband is a pilot so he is on the road a lot, making it even harder to pack fresh produce. Here are three ways we’ve used Thrive foods to help him stay “on plan” while on the road. Enjoy!
Tomato Juice Mix
Ingredients:
1 1/2 T. Thrive Tomato Powder
1/4 tsp. onion powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
Directions:
Mix all ingredients together and place in a ziplock baggie. When ready to use, mix with one cup of water in a shaker cup. Use more or less water for desired consistency. You can adjust the seasoning levels to taste.
Variation:
To get a more V8 style drink, you could grind up other freeze-dried vegetables into a powder in your blender and add them to the mix. This would thicken it a little more and add more nutrients and flavor.
Protein Shake/Smoothie Mix
Ingredients:
1 scoop Vanilla Protein Powder (I get this brand at Costco for cheaper)
3 T. Thrive Instant Powdered Milk
1/2 c. Thrive Freeze-Dried Rasberries (or any freeze-dried fruit)
1/2 c. Thrive Freeze-Dried Blackberries (or any freeze-dried fruit)
Directions:
Mix all ingredients together in a blender and place in a ziplock bag. When ready to use mix with 1 cup of water in a shaker cup. Use more or less water for desired thickness. (Some fruits clump a little when stored for a few days, so experiment with which ones you use.)
Homemade Oatmeal Packets
Ingredients
1/2 c. Oatmeal or Quick Oats
1 T. Thrive Instant Milk
1/2 c. Thrive Freeze-Dried Granny Smith Apples
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 T. chopped walnuts (optional)
Directions:
Combine all ingredients into a ziplock bag. When ready to use, pour into a bowl and add one cup of water. Microwave for 1 minute, then stir. Microwave for 1 more minute. Add a little more water to moisten it up if desired. May add a little sugar or other powdered sweetener to taste if desired.
Variation:
Substitute freeze-dried strawberries for the apples and add extra powdered milk to make strawberries and cream flavored oatmeal.
